Even as the landscape changes, memory is held within natural cycles; there is a lot of work and life happening beneath the surface. My work centers around elements in the natural world such as water and light, looking at the microcosms that the landscape creates. For me, these elements are rituals; they are a constant connection throughout time and space and through their changes, are reflective of how the world is evolving and suffering. A focus on natural phenomena makes note of the small but powerful systems that are constantly at work around us, leading away from a human-centered view of the world.

Renée Fritschel is from Cambridge, Massachusetts and studied studio art at Skidmore College. Her introduction to art and creating began when she learned how to sew at age 6. Textiles were, and still are an important framework for how she sees the world; pattern and texture now influence her work as a painter. She is the co-creator of SCEPTER, an artist-interview publication with her friend Maitreya Ravenstar.

She loves earl gray tea.
